The right preparation when meeting your Psychic medium

If you are looking for answers about your lost loved one, you may want to read the following bits of advice so you are aware of what to expect.

1. Review your current state of grief.

Are you still in deep?  Wishing there were still a way to bring your loved one back?  Depressed or angry?  Overly tearful or sad?  Be honest with yourself.  If you answered yes to any of those references,  seek individual or group counselling in order to find more solid ground before seeing a medium.

According to many mediums and years of research, time isn't a serious factor in determining whether a deceased individual will come through during a session.  But having that reading before you have had time to process the loss can lead to undue expectations.

2. Choose the right psychic medium

Ask friends and family for recommendations (you will be surprised how many people in your life have one).  If you are curious about a famous medium, read their website.  Even if you can't snag a reading, they will probably provide a list of more accessible options.  Most good mediums are part of a "Circle" in which they work with a large room of participants and randomly connect with the audience.  You are not guaranteed a reading but it is a good way to see how the whole process works.  It also may take some pressure off any expectations you are holding onto.  A private session guarantees you a reading and protects your privacy.  Think about what feels right before deciding.

If you have never seen a psychic medium at work and are at the first stages of curiosity, it is possible that attending a group / demo / reading / session can be quite cathartic, it can also be comforting to know you are not alone in your desire to connect with a lost loved one.

Telephone readings can be good, it does not affect the medium's process and can sometimes leave you feeling more secure in the reading, knowing that the medium couldn't read your physical cues.

3. Spend time thinking about your loved one before the reading

Talk to them in your head, tell them you are going to see a medium, and ask them to come through.  Have the medium describe the process beforehand.  During the reading try to remain open and in a relaxed state.  Many people who visit a medium for the first time are hesitant to reveal any details or even acknowledge that what they are being told was true.

Most mediums need some communication from you during a reading and the sound of your voice helps with connection to those waiting loved ones.

4. Have an open mind and low expectations

Some people have a great first experience and never return, feeling they have heard everything they wanted to hear, and that is lovely to know that the reading was delivered and received in the correct way and the reading was fulfilling.  However if your initial reading did not make you feel connected in some way, I suggest possibly trying at least one more time with a different medium.  It is vital that notes are taking during a reading as sometimes words come through at speed and may be jumbled as the connection is established.  You will not remember it later.  Some information may not resonate at the time but will make sense later.

It is important to understand that not all mediums out there are great.  Usually this simply results in a reading that does not resonate at all.  Feel free to voice your misgivings during the reading.  Sometimes if you are not relaxed or even stressed this can cause a block for the medium to deliver the messages and it will be harder to decipher what is being communicated.

A good medium will recognise that there is a blockage, they will re-connect, this can take some time, so you can see that it is important to be in the right frame of mind when you book a reading.

NB A spiritual reading should be full of light, joyous information and guidance.  It is possible that the guidance may be firm but there should be no worrying, warnings delivered.  That is not how the spirit world works.  All guidance is delivered with love and grace for you to think about possible other routes that would be more acceptable for all.  In fact they may show various different scenarios that you may not of thought of, they lay all the options out.  However, you have free will as a human so it is up to you what you do with that guidance.

5.  Write everything down in the reading (some clients type it up as its delivered on a laptop)

A reading can be an emotional experience.  It is helpful to review the process later from a more grounded state.  Carefully select the people you do this with.  For some, the idea of seeing a medium brings up complicated feelings or goes against certain belief systems and they may be judgmental or critical.

After the reading, think about new ways to stay connected to your loved one.  You may feel more open than ever that you can communicate with them.  Go with it.  Write letters, speak out loud to them, as well as telepathically, hang more photos around your home.   The more you think, speak about, remember and connect with your past loved ones, the easier it is for them to connect with you.

My question is how do you know when you are ready for a reading? Part of me wants to contact you for a reading, the other part is a bit apprehensive?

Hi Raymond, thank you for your question. It is a feeling, there is no rush and if you are feeling apprehensive, I would say you still need a bit of time. When you are open to receive a reading is when the time is right for you. Once you are ready you will be more open and relaxed for the connection to take place. Time will tell.
